Primary Care

The Primary Care programme, usually conducted in conjunction with the Secondary Care programme outlined below, consists of training in the first part of responding to an emergency - concentrating on the ABCD'S of care.

You'll learn to monitor a patient's lifeline and respond to non-breathing casualties, heart failure, serious bleeding, spinal and shock injuries, and more. Like the rest of the EFR programmes, Primary Care is conducted in a relaxed atmosphere where the emphasis is on making a positive difference rather than on perfection.

The EFR Programmes, and especially Primary Care (and Care for Children) are not just for divers and boaters - they're for anyone in any walk of life. Heart attacks kill more adults worldwide than just about anything else, and in most cases there's a chance they would have been non-fatal if a proper response had been given at the time. We'll cover Automated External Defibrilation in this course, too - a key tool in the fight against cardiac-related deaths.

Secondary Care

So, you've stabilised a patient's lifeline and they're breathing again. Job done? Probably not. Secondary Care introduces you to the world of "first-aid" - caring for the minor injuries which while not life threatening can certainly make a patient's life more comfortable.

You'll learn techniques like splinting - all designed to improve the patient's general outlook in situations where professional emergency care is either unavailable or unnecessary.

We typically conduct Secondary Care in conjunction with Primary Care, but it can be run separately on demand.

Care for Children

Care for Children can be run either as a standalone course, or as an add-on for holders of the Primary and Secondary Care certifications. In it, we'll focus on the methods of providing emergency care to children and infants, contrasting the differences when compared to adult emergency management for holders of the Primary Care and Secondary Care qualifications.

The Care for Children qualification is ideal for those working with children, such as nannies and nursery staff, and is also perfect for parents. If your child or a child in your care started choking or stopped breathing, would you know what to do?

EFR Refresher
£50 including certification (plus manual if needed)

As with most things we learn, we forget the stuff we don't use. First aid training and CPR are - we hope - things we don't use often if at all, and with disuse become decidedly rusty. In addition, new requirements and recommendations filter down to first aid courses from A&E departments, paramedics and doctors through an organisation called ILCOR.

The EFR refresher course is designed to bring your skills and knowledge up to date and at the same time give you a chance to practice all the stuff you haven't used since you last learned it. They're considered mandatory every 2 years, but we'd recommend completing one every 12 months to make sure you can remember the things you need to in the event that you actually need it.
