Positive: The Cathx Ocean Euphos is a tough, compact dive light that gives you the power of much brighter canister torches in the palm of your hand. It has a very rugged construction, and the exterior embodies a hardened approach to dive torches, using marine grade aluminium, a teflon coating and a high impact acrylic window, which is sunken to protect the torch head from abrasion or impact. It charges through the casing via two pins at the base, and as it is sealed for life, there are no worries of a leak. Depth rated to 250m, chances are this torch can perform far beyond where you'd ever need it to. 1250 lumens in 4 power settings, maximum output giving a run time of 75 minutes, 150 minutes of medium power, which is still bright at 600+ lumens. I was particularly impressed by the SOS mode, besides the torch's strobe mode, it has an SOS function outputting morse code in the flash sequence at the push of a button.
<br />
The dive light can also be used out of the water for a limited time on maximum output, and a for a longer time on lower outputs, due to a built in shut off in the circuitry for thermal protection. Charge time is only 3.5 hours which seems reasonable for the performance of the torch.
<br />
Weighs approx 650g which I'd consider airport friendly if you consider this light has the power of a far heavier canister light.
<br />
All operations of the torch tend to be matched by colour corresponding LED's lighting up in the head of the torch, therefore you can translate what the torch is saying (locked, low power etc) even underwater in the right conditions.
<br />
Has two holes that run through the casing base to slide a lanyard or coil through, I'd advise doing that before you go out and use it, built into the body of the torch the lanyard holes will never fail you, so use a reliable method of attachment to your rig, you don't want to lose this great piece of kit.
<br />
Negative: The Cathx Ocean Euphos dive light is a working beauty, and while the torch is extremely tough and doesn't require further protection, I think it is really deserving being shipped inside its own hard case, such as a peli or storm case. It is a high spec dive light and would suit that being reflected in the packaging alittle more.
<br />
The magnetic thumb switch operation, it becomes second nature quickly, however, there are no online tutorial videos to do this and the manual while quite clear in its instructions, it will be a method of operation most divers I'd imagine won't have seen before, so it could be simplified with an instructional video link written in the manual.
<br />
The torch is not what you'd consider lightweight, but much of that strength is due to the robust materials in use, so I'd rather have the additional protection for the sake of perhaps 100g.
<br />
Summary: The best handheld dive torch I've ever seen let alone had the pleasure of using. It's lumen output has been exceeded by the WiseDive range, which also look excellent torches. However, Cathx is a company that prides itself on reliability for demanding commercial divers, and their entire products range is designed only for arduous underwater work, they make no other products, and for that reason I would trust them with producing high spec reliable products like this. Its tougher and brighter than the recreational diver would dream of...

This is a very bright torch for being reasonably small. Easy to grip and use underwater. It has a bright concentrated bean, with a weak wide angle. You could easily use this torch as a primary light, if you don't venture to deep. Every pleased i brought one...

Excellent BCD for the price, Bought one for my son as a 1st BCD. TBH it leaves my Scubapro Glide + for dead, the lack of intergrated weight pockets isn't a problem as my son prefers a weight belt. features more stainless D ring's than mine and has a built in horn..

Scubapro Fusion Dry Suit Review
When I first got the new Fusion home my wife commented that I had paid a lot of money for a bin liner covered in Lycra. To be fair it did sound like a plastic bag when it was moved in any way.
The design is a bi-laminate layer (that sounds like a crisp packet) with braces and an outer layer of 1mm neoprene which is extremely stretchy. It has a front HD dry zipper with an over zip to runs in a semi circle from the top of one shoulder, around the chest to the top of the other shoulder. When I first put it on at a dive site the zip designed reminded me a bit of the old fashion dive suits and people expected to see a large brass helmet with windows bolted to the suit.
It does have warm cuff covers that Velcro onto the outer layer and cover the latex seals. It also has an elasticated warm neck cover that I found is ideal for tucking the hood into preventing that hood on upside down look when you come out of the water.
Once you get used to it, the suit is extremely easy to get on and off. Because these suits have a large fit range, there is a lot of bi-laminate material inside so put getting in and out of the suit this is the layer you need to deal with, ensuring that you pull the inner layer all the way up the legs. The braces go through two slats in the front of the inner layer and these get stuck so you have to be sure to feed the braces through the inner material. (There is a utube video out there on this particular issue). Once in place the out layer fits snugly making you look quite streamlined.
The first time I tried it the fresh water was 4 degrees centigrade and I was using the Scubapro Climatec Under suit at it was a bit too cold. A thicker under suit is required in that temp but it used significantly less weight that with my previous tri-laminate suit.
Once in the water it felt more like a wet suit with very little squeeze and plenty of movement, flexibility and streamlined. I found it easy to swim and perform skills in this suit.
I have used this suit now in the sea at 10 degrees centigrade at 28m and fresh water at 11 degrees and in both cases it was plenty warm enough with the Climatec under suit however started to get cold near the end of a 30minute dive at that temp.
Sweat and condensation builds up in the suit and because of the plastic style inner lining has nowhere to go so after a dive it can be a little damp, not wet, inside the suit. Easily dried as with socks and not boots can be turned inside out to dry.
Summary
I would highly recommend this suit. The only minor problems that I can find are the condensation inside and the braces getting caught up when putting the suit on. It is supplied with a hood, bag, drysuit hose, zip wax and spare material for possible repairs. The suit appears that it would easily puncture but I have tried to put a sharp object through the spare material and could not put a hole in it. Very pleased with my purchase...

Fantastic bit of kit! I use this on my stage/deco bottles. I ordered this with a 40inch hose and this reg breathes just as good as the XTX40 - in fact I would be tempted to say that this is better than a DS4/XTX40 as the ATX is a much smaller reg making it a bit easier to handle with the mouth...

Got the Everdry after training in a membrane suit and the difference is astonishing. In the membrane suit had 2 layers underneath and felt awkward and uncomfortable. I got the Fourth Element Xerotherm undersuit with the Everdry and the thing is a joy to wear. Getting in is a struggle, close fitting neoprene socks, and wide calves, but once you're in you're toasty, and soooo comfortable. It is flexible and comfortable, and as with all scubapro gear the quality is excellent. Dived a number of times this winter in 4 degree water at stoney. My regs have frozen, but I have remained warm and comfy, with just the single layer of xerotherm beneath. Highly recommended..

If you're going to get a HID torch, then this is the one you need. The 9/21 combo has a 4 hour burn time which when you consider how bright it is, is truly incredible!!
The 21W HID has the punch you need to penetrate through some of the murky waters commonly encountered in UK water. The great thing with the NiMH battery is that it is far smaller, and far lighter than its Sealed-Lead-Acid brother, meaning that it isn't unreasonable to take this on holiday with you. (Although I'd be taking it in a peli-case with me as hand lugage).
The reflector isn't fixed and you can move it for a varying focus ... if you require a precise spot for team communication, then move it all the way back, if you require illumination of an area for video recording, then move it all the way forward to de-focus it and diffuse the light as much as possible.
This is the best torch for the job - hope you enjoy!..

we used the thermocline explorer whith long sleeve top and thermocline tea shirt,in malta on five
dives,at 20 to 25 deg c the first dive was ok but had a few cool moments at 20 metres,so we put rash vests under exporer,ocean reef, we did four more dives all down to 30 metres,we both felt worm.the est thing is we walked to dive centre on beach,100 yards whith rash suit and explorer on
the air temp was 32 c and we were not uncomfortable,we kitted up then put on tea shirt and long sleeve top at ladst minuet.on the boat we were quite comfotable while the rubber clad diver gasped for air as thay cooked,rubber dousent breath the thermocline does.we are impressed by the comfort of getting into and diving these suits,we also used weezel hood liners,[same material]

I recently bought these fins for a liveaboard trip to St Kilda. I found them to be very comfortable, easy to get on and off and significantly more effective in the water than my plana avantis. I tend to frog kick for comfort and practical reasons but I found the Seawings much easier to use with a standard kick than my old fins. A number of people on the trip commented that I appeared to be going faster than everyone else - perhaps the novelty factor helped but I certainly felt that they were doing the business.The material seems to be robust - hardly a scratch on them. The only slight niggle is that there is no grip on the soles which makes them a little slippery whilst on deck...

Reaction is the most recent of the Cressi scuba diving fins, and takes advantage of the exclusive Cressi patented technology of moulding in three materials, to guarantee unequalled performance. To all these excellent features, Reaction adds a new, longer, more flexible and lighter blade that provides excellent thrust with minimum muscle fatigue and the smallest expenditure of energy..

I recently had the opportunity to try out these Fins why doing some diving off Anglesey where I knew I would find some heavy currents. The Fins were stunning and were the main talking point on the boat why we were on our way out the wreck site. The sunning fins that are beautifully made were perfect in the water with effortless coupled with the thrust I would get from my Split fins. I found myself with more power and really didn’t feel that I was putting any effort in. These are a perfectly balanced fin and I think Scubapro have started something here combining the power of the split fin with the force of Jet fins…. A Must have for any divers who are in the market of some new fins, I would definitely consider these my top choice...

The Evolve 40lb wing is probably the only wing you will ever need. You don't need the larger 60lb lift as that is far more than you will ever need.
The donought shape is superior to the horse-shoe as it allows perfect gas migration around the wing throught the dive to keep your trim and ensure maximum stability.
The bottom of the donought is excellent for providing that small amount of lift at the bottom of your cylinders to help get your legs up to get perfectly horizontal...

The DS4 1st stages are ideal for twinsets and allow good routing of hoses.
The XTX40 is an excellent back up regulator - dependable and a good breathe. I've been at 45m on nitrox and the breathe is excellent with no difficulty breathing.
The XTX50 is an upgrade to the XTX50 - with adjustability. The great thing with the XTX50 is that you can feel the difference in the breathing - with the adjustment at fully "+" it was shooting gas down your throat and I felt like I couldn't take it all! Moral of the story is its a fantastic regulator.
I high recommend DS4, XTX50 & XTX50..

Bought this suit from Bret in march 2007, just before doing my inspiration course. i must say that i found it nice and toasty during my course which involved up to 1 and half hours diving in cold water at a time. found to be a lovely flexible fit great for reaching and stretching during drills etc. a fantastic alternative to the otter britannic. the only drawback is the dump valve is bulky and i prefer a cuff dump. thisis only personal preference though. the long frontal zipper makes for easy entry and exit and is great quality along with all the no stitch seams...

I bought this wing off the internet without having seen one, I was bitterly disapointed when I recieved it. The build quality is very questionable, This can only be recommended as an occasional user BCD and then is far too exspensive for what it is. I have since bought a Frog Indigo which I cannot fault and is far superior in quality and design. I now only intend to use the Icaro as a travel BCD as its one redeaming feature is it is light and I would not be disapointed if it got lost. Plus the harness design is no longer as this picture, it is now a much less robust simple harness with a 1" sternum strap added as an after thought. Cheap and nasty stay well clear. This is no reflection on Divelife who I can't recommend too highly, their shop is bustling with very high quality dive gear a visit is highly recommended...

This Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) made by Buddy is ideal. It is around a meter in length which makes it easy to roll up and put inside a dry suit thigh pocket, or in a BCD pocket. I prefer the first. It comes with a large, strong webbing large enough to get your hand through should you have a buoyancy failure.
I highly recommend a DSMB as it will aid surface support to find you. I have purchased two (red and yellow) and I have written my initials on the first, and the word "GAS" on the other - this way I can use the red one for a general marker, when I am at a deco station for example. And the other is used for if something goes wrong (make sure you tell the skipper what it means!) then surface support will know the current situation is dire.
At ?25 it is excellent value and its incredibly well made - it feels indestructible. Invest in getting a good solid reel as well so that it can be permenantly attached to the DSMB so that it is easy to pull out and launch - no faffing with attaching a reel mid water (reduces the chances of something going wrong)...

The Darkness Beckons is an exciting read through the history of cave diving by Martyn Farr. The book describes early pioneers of cave exploration (dry caving) through to the modern day development and philosophies of cave diving (wet and dry) as we know it. The book discusses discoveries, tragedies and successes.
The Darkness Beckons is a luring book into the exciting world of caving - Martyn tries to inform the public that although caving isn't for everyone, for those who dare it's one of the best "sports" there is.
I highly recommend this book!..

The Encyclopedia builds on fundamental knowledge of diving into a more advanced understanding, with justifications of reasons (such as the 35m/130ft limit). However while this knowledge is being developed it is explained simply so as not to overwhelm the reader. In addition to the text, there are many videos, pictures and schematics to assist in learning. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to further their understanding of diving. A good investment!..

The Pathfinder reel is extremely tough. Its made from delrin - so its not heavy in the water like steel , or floaty like a plastic reel. There is one large handle for four fingers get through so that you have a strong positive grip on the reel. The handle is in an ideal location so that if you like to swim/scooter and reel out as you go - your thumb can reach to put a bit of friction on the spinning reel to prevent the reel getting jammed!
A single screw down nut locks the reel, this can be used to put friction on the reel, but I don't suggest it as it will quickly wear down the delrin that makes up the spool part of the reel. There is a "loop" at the top of the reel so that the cable can only come out of the reel in one direction - even if the reel does jam or become a mess!
Overall the Pathfinder is an amazing reel, extremely tough and durable, yet easy to handle - I highly recommend it for anyone who operates in low vis, or conditions that require mandatory navigation...

I have had nothing but trouble from the heated vest. I have had four cans and none of them have worked properly:
Thinking that this was finally the answer to my getting so cold in the UK, I booked a one day trip to Swanage three UK trips liveaboards over the summer.
CAN 1) at Swanage the can leaked on dive one and I was freezing cold on dive two. I sent it back and it was agreed that the can was faulty.
CAN 2) + CAN 3) my replacement for can 1 had not arrived in time for my next trip. So I met the Typhoon rep at Winchester services on my way to the Scillies for a weeks liveaboard.
This was not on my way. I had to make a 40 mile detour to meet him. He gave me his demo bag which contained two cans. These cans were both faulty. Sometimes they worked and then stopped working after a few minutes. sometimes they did not work at all. An electrician on board tested them with his probes and deduced that the cables were broken and even though the batteries were fine the power was not getting through to the vest.
The following weekend I went to Lundy and took the same cans with me. Again they did not work for all the three days.
Then two weeks later a liveaboard to Plymouth. Again the same problems.
All this time I was calling Typhoon for my replacement cans.
Then I got a call from the rep who desperately required his demo kit back. I couriered then back to him.
CAN 4) my replacement had finally arrived. I noticed something different. The inside lid of the can had been potted. I thought great this is going to work. So I took it on my trip to the Galapagos last month. Same problem. It worked then went off after a few minutes. If I fiddled with the cable it came back on. Once again it seems that the cables are broken inside and no power is getting through to the vest.
I am so fed up with this now. I have been on four liveaboards where people have seen e suffer as a result of your product.
I don\'t like getting cold, that is why I spend ?499 on your product. It is not fit for purpose because it does not work.
Within my club whenever we talk about keeping warm I tell them exactly what problems I have had with your product.

The DST is an amazing regulator. The swivelling turret makes life easier in a lot of ways. Firstly, it can make routing hoses a lot easier thanks to the swivelling turret. Secondly, whenever you turn your head, and when the reg would usually be pulled to the side of your mouth, the turret will swivel to make sure the maximum amount of hose is pointing in the right direction which makes for a more comfortable dive. The build quality is outstanding. Also the chrome effect looks awesome!..

The DST is basically a DS4 that is turretted - i.e. there's a bit that can swivel where you attached your regulators. Its a very useful feature as it means if you pull on the reg hose a bit the turret will swivel to suit the new position - it means that your reg doesn't get pulled out of your mouth when you turn your head! It also helps when trying to run the hoses.
The XTX50 is an amazing regulator - when you feel how smooth the breathe is, and when you conside the amazing build quality coupled with the features, such as the Venture leaver etc, you get alot of regulator for your money!..

If you have a steel cylinder then you are going to be needing a cylinder boot. The rubber has tremendous amounts of grip - the boot is not going to be coming off the cylinder any time soon. And the large base makes any standing cylinders very stable.
However - remember that cylinders should not be left standing unattended!..

The Last Dive is a touching story about the lives of a father and son, who are seduced into diving, and ultimately lose their lives during a dive on a wreck.
The book talks through the developments in diving technology and understanding. Also, major "milestone" people who contributed to diving as we know it today from Cousteau to Exley.
The book tells the story of the two main characters, Chris, and his son, Chrissy as they learn to dive and progress their knowledge that is at the cutting edge I found the book an inspiration because I can compare myself to the main characters - unbelievably passionate about diving - I can see myself following the same path that the Rouse's walked. In addition to being an inspiration, the book also served as a warning. Pushing limits and not taking diving seriously can, and will, ultimately lead to your death as the Rouses found out.
In addition to the main story, major diving "celebrities" get a mention, as well as various aspects of diving such as decompression theory.
The book is truly fascinating and impossible to put down - it is a must for all divers to read...

The Explorer is the finest wing that money can buy. The wing is designed to "wrap" around the cylinders as it inflates - by doing this it means that the divers profile through the water is as small as possible minimizing effort. Item is as described with regard to comfort and flexibility, (looks pretty cool too). I've been diving with weezle for many years, and I hold the quality / warmth / comfort in very high regard. I'm sure this two-piece will prove as exceptional as the one I eventually grew out of (unfortunately around the waist which meant it was starting to restrict my movement)
If my previous weezle had been a two-piece I wouldn?t have had to buy another as my expanding waistline just wouldn?t have restricted my movement in the same way.
Very happy so far... Will update with regard to warmth comfort and practicability soon...

Until the VBS was launched there wasn\'t a dedicated rebreather wing on the
market. It was developed to be not only capable of growing with the diver
as their experience and competence developed, but could also be used
successfully for a number of different disciplines. From single tank
diving, to twin sets, staging up and also rebreathers.
When it comes to a successful wing for a rebreather, extra width is
needed. This allows the wing to inflate properly. If you have a wing
that doesn?t fit a rebreather properly it can press on your sides, then
the relief valves go off, because you have squeezed the wing between
yourself and the unit. The result? You can lose lift. Hence Custom
Divers designed the VBS that would be ideal for rebreathers, but also for
the diver as he continues his diving education.
Currently there are two wing sizes, with a minimum lift capacity of 31lb
and 50lb. At first glance, this may not seem a great deal of lift for
divers wearing a wet suit or who carry a lot of open circuit bailout, but
look again. The beauty of this system is that you gain extra lift, up to
16lb with a 31lb wing (making 47lbs), and 26lb with the 50lb wing (making
76lbs). The secret is that the VBS has three zippable compartments around
the outside of the wing. The compartments (which are completely
independent of one another) expand, offering the diver variable buoyancy
capability, whilst the elasticated cordless side panels allow for
controlled even deflation. So if you decide to wear a side mount or pony
bottle and want to add some more lift, you can unzip or open up the side
that the weight is on. The wing compensates, tilting you appropriately,
and once again you have an even profile through the water.
Other ?niceties? include the design of the neck section. This compartment
is slimline ensuring that the breathing loop and hoses are not caught and
snagged, no matter what position the wing is bolted onto the back box.
Divers also benefit from 4 D Rings attached to the Wing, making mounting
accessories an easier task. Finally with the multi-holed back panel and
stainless steel backplate, the diver has choice as to how high or low he
mounts the wing.
Divers will be pleased to know that if they buy a single bladder, and
after time wish to upgrade to a twin bladder system, they can do so just
by purchasing an additional bladder and fitting it into the existing wing
envelope. With the right tooling it should take about 15 minutes.
Alternatively Custom Divers can provide a 7 day turnaround.
Divers should note that the bladders should match when doubling up, so you
can?t buy a 31lb bladder and 50lb bladder. When you are diving with the
Twin Bladder System, you are just doubling your redundancy, and not
doubling your lift capacity. Think of it like an octopus. Hopefully you
will never need to use it, but it?s awfully handy when you do!..

Manifold vulnerability is well known amongst the nitrox and technical
diving fraternity. We know that if a twinset is picked up by the
manifold, this can stress the isolator bar between the two valves, causing
it to bend. Then when the cylinders are dived, the result can be quite
severe bubble leakage from the O Ring Seats. Regrettably in this case
there is nothing that can be done, apart from educate the offender and
replace the manifold. This can be quite an expensive business, hence
Custom Divers wanted to design a product that would hinder untrained
people lifting the set by the manifold, and also provide a natural
acceptable carrying point that anyone would use, be they a diver or not.
The Twin Tanks Lift Bar System is simple to fit, well designed, and hugely
adaptable. Basically two anodised aluminium split collars can be attached
easily and quickly to the underside of the valves and manifold. Between
the two collars is a 316 stainless steel handle which is threaded,
allowing the diver to fit the TT Lift Bar to a variety of cylinders from 7
litre to 20 litre tank configurations. Usefully, because the collars are
split, there is no need to remove the valves to fit the TT, and all the
diver needs is a spanner and an Allen key.
As divers with un-manifolded systems can utilise this system too, Custom
Divers believe they have come up with a neat solution to an age old
problem...
